James Parkman Interview - Mia'cova 12:42 PST
Unreal Universe
has picked out an interview with Legend's James Parkman on
Bloodshot. After completing The Wheel of Time, he moved on to
his current project, Unreal 2. Since it's very difficult to
get a hold on any Unreal 2 information, the interview has a
lot more questions about James then his projects. Here's a
snippet on where one finds the time to become a professional
level designer.
12) What was the biggest influence on the
direction your career has gone and why?
CS 410 (Software Engineering). I had toyed with level
design through the doom days, but at one point during
college, I made up my mind that to pursue a career in the
field I'd have to devote a lot of time to it. The
unbelievable boredom of this class inspired me to skip it
every day to make levels. (School is good kiddies, don't be
like James. Be cool, stay in School or
something.) Perhaps I should be taking some of
that advise to heart. Hrm. Well, James is an interesting guy
with a great interview waiting to be
read. |

Aaron Leiby Interview - QAPete 7:11 PST
Shadar Logoth continues its series of
interviews with Aaron Leiby, Senior Programmer at Legend
Entertainment. Here's a clip:
What changes do you
see coming in computer games over the next 5 years?
Aaron Leiby: More focused games. Games focused
entirely on Singleplayer and story, or games focused
entirely on Multiplayer like we are already seeing with
titles such as UnrealTournament. Massively Multiplayer games
like Evercrack and the likes seem to be becoming more and
more popular. Also, as technology becomes more and more
advanced, I think we'll see less emphasis on the newest
technologies game X sports and more emphasis on real content
that the game presents.
What are you doing now that WoT is finished?
Aaron Leiby: Working on our next title - Unreal2. I'm
also finishing up my degree as quickly as possible. (Not a
combination I would recommend to anyone -- kids don't try
this at home.) You can check the rest at
Shadar Logoth. |

Robert Wisnewski Interview -
QAPete 1:36 PST
Shadar
Logoth continues their interview series with WoT
developers. This time they talk to Robert Wisnewski, one of
the WoT artists. Here's a snip for 'ya:
What changes do you
see coming in computer games over the next 5 years?
Robert Wisnewski: More realistic physics. More
believable realistic looks and design. More interaction with
the environment and less linear goals.
What did you enjoy most about working on WoT?
Least?
Robert Wisnewski: Most: Working with extremely
talented staff and helping create a new type of 3D action
game - lots of ways to play; defensive as well as offensive.
Least: Optimizing polygon counts and limits on texture
memory.

Where am I? - Saber 22:42 PST
Most of you would have noticed that I have been absent from
the Planet for quite some time now, while I started on a high
note with frequent posts, my news posts have slowly become
non-existant.
The reason for this is that I haven't
had a net connection because I basically haven't had my own
place to live. I finished school last year and found a job in
another town from where I live. So I moved and have only now
found my very own apartment with my girlfriend.
This
means I now have access to the net as I'll finally have a
phone line :) So as soon as I can get an internet account
setup you can expect me back here a.s.a.p, and I promise to
bring gifts! :) |
