Wywiad by [ Luke ]
[LukE> Well first of all introduce yourself :)...
[beam> Hello, my name is Dan Beriault aka cK-beam. Im 17, I live near Toronto
and play quake3:). I was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
[LukE> When have you started playing Quake "professionally"?
[beam> Well I started playing online gaming with doom, duke3d, quake1, quake2
but didnt get seriously into it until quake3 came out and I joined clan
Kapitol(cK). Our first big tourney in quake3 was called Teamplay.net
Kickoff tourney. And we came first place beating out nB in the finals.
We were then invited to QIL3 tournament, were we made it to the final
four out of 32 teams. Final 4 was lanned in San Fran., Cali. We recieved
a free flight and a free hotel room for the weekend. Thats when i knew I
could get use to this life style:).
[LukE> Your favourite gun / map / MOD / gameplay style?
[beam> My favourite gun would have to be the shaft. Its one of my stronger guns
but also, I just love the way it moves and how well you can handle it on
LAN. I have liked theSHAFT since quake1, were you could easly hold
people in mid air til they were dead. My Favourite map is q3tourney2, a
1on1 map. Its just a lot of fun on LAN and allows me to play with my
favourite gun (shaft). Favourite MOD is ra3, but DM is always my main
purpose to playing quake3. I love teamgames with my clan, but I'm really
starting to get into 1on1. The whole game is just fun.
[LukE> Who was the toughest quaker you've ever fought with and what actually
made him so tough?
[beam> I would have to say cK-czm. His 15, in my clan, and
just owns me so hard. I would have to say the reason he beats me is just
due to pure aim and experience. His also a very smart kid. Which comes
into play well, on dm13 when you have 3 armours/mega health and other
guns that people like to keep a time on (each gun/armour/mega health
have their own spawning times. For example, Mega Health spawns 35seconds
on that map.)
[LukE> And a little about your clan - cK. Who started it and who came up
with the idea of it's name - clan Kapitol? BTW: it must be cool to be
able to ware something with the initials of the clan you're in, but I'm
not sure if everybody from your crew has T-shirts from Celvin Klein
;)))...
[beam> Well, cK was started up about 5 or 6 years ago for quake1 and probably
doom. I wasn't around back then. I have just recently joined them in the
last year and a half. cK was named after a college that some students
were going to, Kapitol college. I think the founds were Demiurge,
Wilder, Cronus and a few others. Sorry if I left out names, but it WAS 5
or 6 years ago:). I don't think anyone in cK wears anything from Celvin
Klein.. but yes, it is cool going to a LAN and seeing other people
wearing it. Its like they are respecting us. heh.. i dunno
[LukE> Saw the demo from QIL when you smashed Abuse... Great work :)... It
would be a crime not to ask you a question that is on my mind for a long
time - How come you guys are SO DAMN GOOD ;)? How often and for how long
(daily) do you practise?
[beam> Well, I would have to say a lot. You can't put a time on it cause its
not like a job. It's just pure fun. Some weeks I play for like 3 hours.
ther weeks I play like 3 hours a day. Usually at night also, because
that is when everyone is back from school or work or going out, and the
servers are full.
[LukE> I heared you have a new clan member - Fatality from nB. Some say he's
the best 1on1 fighter in the world - I saw a couple of his demos, but I
can't agree with that because I haven't played with him (yet ;)). So I
ask you - have YOU played with him? And if so - is he really that good?!
[beam> I personally have not played with him, but I know for a fact he is that
good. When you watch his demos, you sort of notice that there is better
railers out there, or better fighters. But he is only human. What makes
him stand out is how well he controls the levels and locks them down. He
puts in the time, and gets results at what he does.
[LukE> Have you ever played with a polish player or at least saw a demo from
polish fights? If so then what do you think of our skill level?
[beam> To be honest, I don't really watch many demos. So I havnt seen any from
polish quakers. But that doesn't matter. What i have learned in my
experience.. is not to doubt or judge anyone. There is always new face
no namers, that come out of no where and just explode with skill. It
doesn't matter if your polish or american or canadian.. It's all about
practice time, experience, reflexes, and mentality.
[LukE> What other games do you like to play besides Quake and what other
hobbies do you have? What do you like to do in your free time (and don't tell me
"playing Q3" ;))?
[beam> I played Diablo2 for a bit. And doom and duke3d back in the day. But if
I'm going to go play a game on the CPU, its going to be quake3 about 99%
of the time, heh. Umm.. hobbies.. hockey is lots of fun. But thats about
it. Hockey, quake3, work, sleep, school, friends. thats my life. Not in
that order:)
[LukE> OK, thnx and keep up the good work in cK :)...
[beam> Thank a lot for the interview! And just remember, yes canadians have
cable modems, and no its not snowing 24/7:)
