I loved Finders Keepers music: David Dunn produced one of the cutest pieces on record, later satirised by Rob Hubbard. Key to this piece was filter usage and cuteness: I hope the MPEG has both!

The sequel to Finders Keepers, Spellbound was a cute game, with an oddly sombre soundtrack. A sometimes underestimated tune that at times sounds like it's ripping the SID chip apart (I tend to think of it as "Brother of Zoids"), this is a very strong tune, well structured.

The files presented are the "choral" variety. I felt that a vast treatment, including choirs, of the tune would be suitable, but it didn't include the strange ringmods present in the original tune. A synthy version will appear later.

I loved the Magic Knight games series on the '64 (and played most of them on a Spectrum first so I had a head start on knowing what to do), so you can imagine my reaction to hearing Rob Hubbard's music for 'Spellbound'. For the first game, 'The Filter Master' David Dunn was called upon to provide a cute and twee theme for the game, and he succeeded very well. Despite filters all over the place, it bounced along nicely, with a low dum-de-dum bass and slightly high pitched main voice complementing each other pretty nicely. And what could be nicer?

As I mentioned above, a Hubbard classic. Much like Master of Magic, the mid 13th century medieval feel is present, and again the sword to shield clang plays its parts on the tune. What sets it apart though is the false ending, after four minutes of cinematic Hubbardness, you think the tune has ended, but then kicks back with the last desparate dramatic part to finsh the tune off. And it sounds completely as if Magic Knight is on his last legs, ready to breath his last drop of air...

"Tell me about the wizard" asked the gallant knight bravely.
"Buggered if I know", said the project manager, helpfully.
