Crime Stoppers it is a program of
establishing "anticriminal lobby", it
means cooperation of local authorities, media,
non-goverment institusions and police in order to
improve revealing process of the most dangerous
crimes.
Everyone who delivers a precious for police
information can count on a high money reward. At
present it amounts up to 5000 PLN.
Crime Stoppers Radom - it is a first enterprise
of this kind in Poland, and probably in Eastern
Europe. We started in August 1997. |
Crime Stoppers began in
Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA in September of 1976
and is based on the principal that "Someone
other than the criminal has information that can
solve a crime".
Crime Stoppers was created to combat the three
major problems faced by law enforcement in
generating that information:
fear of reprisal, an
attitude of apathy, reluctance to get involved.
Crime Stoppers resolves theese problems by:
- Offering anonymity to people
who provide information about crimes.
- Paying rewards when the
information supplied leads to arrest.Three Essential Elements
Make Up a Crime Stoppers Program:
- THE COMMUNITY - Forming a Crime
Stoppers non-profit corporation, work
closely with the police and the
media and generally oversee the program.
- THE MEDIA - CS methods,
objectives, successes and phone numbers are
publicizet on a regular basis by
the media. An unsolved "Crime of the
Week" is
given special treatment with
details published in the media.
- THE POLICE - Callers are asigned
a special Code number and never give their
names. If, after the investigation,
the information leads to an arrest, the caller is
entitled to a reward.

This
system has established 20 years ago in the USA and it
resolves itself into one rule: "if you know a
criminal, if you have information which can be helpful to
punish a criminal - phone as anonymous using a special
police phone number".
In 1997 thanks to phone information 30 criminals were
recovered, 4 wanted persons and 2 smugglers were arrested
and 8 cars were retired.
048 45-25-25 telephone is on for 24 hours, served by
automatical secretary and from Monday to Friday between
8.00 - 10.00 a.m. by Police officer.
We are interested in information concerning criminals
involved in robberies, raids burglaries, car steeling and
places were stolen cars are hidden, information about
roads-hogs who escaped after accident and all other which
can help to improve public safety.
